Do you eat those health food bars?

I don’t know if you’ve ever stopped to read the ingredients in any of the protein bars, power bars, energy bars, and the likes, but they are anything but healthy. They usually have high-fructose corn syrup, trans fat, sodium, empty carbs and artificial flavors and colors.

There are much healthier alternatives to choose from that will not only hold you over between meals but will also provide heart healthy omega 3’s, antioxidants, and cancer fighting nutrients.

One of my favorite healthy snacks are nuts, especially almonds. They are high in protein and fill you up. They also provide you with essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, potassium, fiber and calcium that help you build a stronger heart, bones and digestive system.

Pumpkin seeds are another healthy snack packed full of powerful nutrients. Just ¼ cup gives you almost ½ your daily requirement for magnesium1, which helps control blood sugar and in turn can speed up fat loss. Pumpkin seeds also contain protein, omega 3s, zinc, and plant sterols that help strengthen your heart, bones, and immune system and prevent prostate enlargement.

If you’re looking for something a little sweeter, reach for a handful of dried cranberries. The powerful antioxidants found in cranberries can protect against heart disease and cancer. They also contain resveratrol, which can improve blood flow by slowing down the buildup of platelets in blood vessels.2 And, it also strengthens your immune system and helps reduce inflammation.

With all these healthy benefits, almonds, pumpkin seeds and cranberries truly are guilt-free foods. If you’re looking for a quality source of all three, you will be able to find them in my new Primal Snacks. They’re easy to eat on the go, will fill you up until your next meal and give you the natural energy you need to make it through your day.

Primal Snacks are not ready quite yet, but will be very soon…I will keep you posted.
